Fifty of the European Union’s (EU) most exciting startups will take centre stage this week at the continent’s leading innovation summit.

The European Innovation Summit, now in its ninth year, has added the EU Top 50 competition and convention to its programme. It has been introduced by Knowledge4Innovation, organisers of the summit — in cooperation with IncubatorEurope and Glowfly.

Dr Roland Strauss, Managing Director of Knowledge4Innovation, says the idea is to “empower the region’s most promising young founders” by giving them direct access to the networks that have been created to support their ambitions.

Carlos Moedas

The European Innovation Council (EIC) is one such initiative. European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, has labelled the EIC as a body ready to support “top innovators who have the ambition, resilience and capability to create and capture new markets.”

The multi-billion euro platform is there to facilitate “breakthrough, market-creating innovation” Moedas said.

“I am confident that the EIC will provide an excellent opportunity for all the startups that are participating in the EU Top 50 startups competition and that it will become a ‘game-changer for our game-changers’. I’m sure this year’s European Innovation Summit will again contribute to the on-going discussions that shape our European research and innovation landscape,” he added.

The EU Top 50 Hemicycle Start-up Convention being held in the European Parliament will be live streamed tomorrow.

Innovators Magazine is a proud media partner of the Summit and has produced a special EU50 edition, which will be available at the Summit taking place in and around the European Parliament this week, and online, from tomorrow.
