Robots begin delivering food in US

(USA)

Starting this week hungry Californians living in Redwood City could find themselves being served by robots. Delivery robots that is, thanks to a pioneering partnership between DoorDash and Starship Technologies.

The six wheeled delivery robots developed by Starship Technologies will support the DoorDash team, as the food delivery company continues in its quest to pursue “innovation and experimentation”.

“We see robot deliveries as a unique complement to the existing Dasher community. Since Starship’s robots have a smaller carrying capacity and drive on sidewalks, they are better suited for carrying a small meal down the street, rather than a few pizzas. We expect to use robots to deliver these smaller, short-distance orders that Dashers often avoid, thereby freeing up Dashers to fulfill the bigger and more complex deliveries that often result in more money for them,” Stanley Tang, DoorDash Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, blogged about the partnership earlier this year.
