Refugee chefs cook up a storm

(EUROPE)

Nearly 100 top restaurants across Europe are showcasing the immense talents of refugee chefs this month.

The Refugee Food Festival kicked off in Lyon last week, with 84 eateries due to take part in the 15-day-long event. It is a great opportunity for diners to enjoy dishes made by experienced cooks, who have arrived in Europe from countries including Somalia, Syria, Eritrea and Afghanistan.

A ‘citizens’ initiative’ developed by the organisation, Food Sweet Food, and supported by the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissionner for refugees), it has three key objectives: change perceptions of refugees, accelerate their professional integration, and discover cuisines from all over the world.
