A vegan diet was the answer to the question of our recent article – what should we eat? – according to researchers at Oxford University.
And at last week’s Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in Berlin, which our impact comms lead, Carlotta De Toni took part in – and reported from, former US Vice President Al Gore told the trainees that diet choices are inextricably linked to the health of the planet.
“Changing diet is one of the keys to change the agricultural impact on the environment,” Al Gore said.
He also made it clear that while current habits place the Earth at serious peril, this is a fight we can still win.
“This beautiful nature in which we live, this beautiful planet that is ideal for the conditions that lead to the flourishing of humanity, we could lose these conditions, we could lose what is most precious to us. This precious Earth of ours is beginning to slip from our hands; it has not slipped away. And now it is the time to make sure it does not,” he added.
Carlotta will be introducing a new column in our biotech special edition going out at the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in Philadelphia, sharing her ongoing learning as a Climate Leader with industry stakeholders; a section that will continue to feature, and be expanded, online and in print – stay tuned. We’ll also be publishing Carlotta’s Q&A with Ken Berlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Climate Reality Project, on these pages soon.
