Circular Economy

Europe enters the circular zone

Europe is wasting no time in embracing the economic and environmental opportunities offered by the circular economy.

Earlier this week more than 1000 cross-sectoral and community leaders gathered in Brussels for a conference themed: ‘Delivering on the Circular Economy – What’s Next?’. Video of that two-day Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference is available now.

And today the European Commissioner for Environment Maritime Affairs & Fisheries, Karmenu Vella, welcomed one of the very first things to come next…backing from EU Ambassadors for ambitious targets set out in a provisional waste package agreement reached in the European Parliament last December. If the legislation is voted for in the Parliament it will then be passed to the ‘Council for final adoption’.

And it will commit member states to a range of recycling – and reuse – goals, with targets on municipal waste of 55% by 2025 and 65% by 2035.
