Books that will change your life forever

If you are on holiday this weekend here are two great books to consider, with links to my podcasts with the authors.

The Web Of Meaning: Integrating Science and Traditional Wisdom to Find Our Place in the Universe by Jeremy Lent (Inside Ideas podcast interview with the author)

To answer some of our biggest questions: Who am I? Why am I? How should I live? author Jeremy Lent connects the dots of modern systems thinking, neuroscience and indigenous wisdom to help reconnect us to the true nature of our own humanity. In the process he provides an antidote to the creeping technification of our identities: the conflation our brains to hard drives, our actions to the uploading and downloading of data. Lent shows us the dance of infinity we are in, with each other, and nature, a spontaneous one, that rocks to the rhythm of a dissonant beat strong enough to keep us all moving – if we just get our feet right.

The Life You Can Save by Peter Singer (Inside Ideas podcast interview with the author)

The Life You Can Save is your guide to effective altruism: ‘doing the most good’. It has created a global movement of people who have made improving the lives of others a priority. “We have a whole movement now called effective altruism that talks about how to be the most effective altruists. To not only give away some of your money and do some good but really make sure you are getting the best value for everything that you give,” author Peter Singer told me on Inside Ideas.

You can find more of my favourites on our books page.
