The Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge is searching for pioneering sustainable startups working to overcome environmental problems. A game changing €500,000 of funding will go to the winner, with second spot worth €200,000. Three other finalists will walk away with €100,000 each.

“As part of the Postcode Lottery family, along with our sister lotteries in the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Germany, we have a shared aim of creating a better world for people and planet. Reducing our impact on the environment by tackling climate change is an important part of this aim, said Clara Govier, managing director at People’s Postcode Lottery. “It’s fantastic that we are seeing more and more businesses in the UK starting with the aim of creating solutions to the biggest problems facing the planet today – and I’d urge any start-ups to enter Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge. It’s a quick application process, you don’t give up any shares of your business, and you could win €500k!”

The Great Bubble Barrier, led by Anne Marieke Eveleen (pictured), won in 2018 for an innovation which stops ‘plastics polluting the ocean by using a bubble curtain to capture rubbish as it flows down rivers – without stopping ships or fish from travelling’.

Applications for the 2019 edition are open from 1 March-30 April.
