A sailing team competing in the Volvo Ocean Race is using its profile to raise awareness about the damage being caused by plastic waste.
Innovators Magazine has featured the ‘Turn the Tide on Plastic’ sailing team on these pages a few times in recent months, as the crew, led by Dee Caffari, competes in the round-the-world race.
“The team’s guiding mission is to amplify United Nations Environment’s ‘Clean Seas: Turn the Tide on Plastic’ campaign throughout the eight months of the race,” the Turn the Tide on Plastic website states.
And the team has just finished the Hong Kong leg of the race in sixth position.
The sustainability focus of the event has caught the imagination of school kids in Hong Kong, with youngsters from the Dalton School learning about the issues via the Volvo Ocean Race Education Programme.
