Citizens worldwide are uniting to address the climate crisis via a new Facebook-backed UN campaign launched today at COP24.

In a bid to inspire global leaders gathered in Katowice to commit to implementing actions robust enough to reverse the trajectory of rising emissions, temperature rises 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels – and the associated repercussions from this direction of travel – The People’s Seat initiative will drive climate action, with information available on steps everyone should take on the UN’s new ActNow.bot pages.

Launching the initiative, and broadcasting video messages from people across the planet supporting it, Sir David Attenborough said today: “In the last two weeks, the world’s people have taken part in creating this address, answering polls, creating videos and voicing their opinions. They want you – the decision makers – to act now.”

He continued: “The people are behind you, supporting you in making tough decisions, but they are also willing to make sacrifices in their daily lives. To make this even easier, the UN is launching the Act Now bot. Helping people to discover simple everyday actions that they can take, because they recognise that they too must play their part.”
