Sweden is the top performer when it comes to transitioning to sustainable energy systems, according to a report from the World Economic Forum (WEF).

But international efforts need to be accelerated as ‘progress toward environmental sustainability has stalled’, WEF says in its Fostering Effective Energy Transition report, which also sets how countries can remedy this.

“With this new fact-based framework, we do not only get a view of the performance of national energy systems today but also a much-needed perspective on what is needed to succeed in the future,” said Roberto Bocca, Head of Basics and Energy Industries, World Economic Forum.

With one billion people around the world living without electricity, and the shift to clean energy key to combatting climate change, WEF’s Energy Transition Index (ETI) is a tool which ‘supports the development of a vision of energy transition, and ultimately, a roadmap’.
