How can we achieve a fair and sustainable word for all?
Today is International Women’s Day (#IWD2018), an occasion where people are sharing stories and opinions on how the world can #PressforProgress on gender equality.
Carlotta De Toni is the impact comms lead at Innovators Magazine, and recently began using our Instagram feed to focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – the international blueprint for creating a sustainable and fair world for all.
Achieving gender equality is SDG5 – and one Carlotta will be discussing over the next few weeks.
With a global skills gap, especially in STEM positions, where women are still desperately underrepresented, it is an economic imperative that we all #PressforProgress on achieving gender equality.
As Keeley Reynolds, Global Head of Communications at Spotcap points out today on our tech pages, statistics from the World Economic Forum show that a paltry ‘22% of individuals holding senior positions globally are women, with the largest gap being observed in the STEM fields, including software and IT services’.
Action needs to be taken now to address the disparities or the world will simply be unable to overcome the growing number of challenges it needs to overcome.
Carlotta, who is passionate about food innovation and sustainability, is using her Instagram platform to promote the SDGs. She is currently discussing SDG2 – zero hunger. And to feed a rapidly growing global population, the agriculture sector – especially in the developing world – will need to harness the skills of women, and there is some progress in this area.
Join Carlotta now to talk about the SDGs.
