Students challenged to save oceans

University students from across the world are being urged to take part in an innovation challenge and help combat the devastation caused by marine plastics.

Without action, one report found that “by 2050 oceans could contain more plastics than fish (by weight)”. The latest global initiative to help reverse this trend has been launched through a partnership between UN Environment and the accelerator, Think Beyond Plastic™. It calls on students to pitch their ideas for solving the scourge of ocean plastic waste.

Deadline for submissions is 6 October 2017.  The winners will be invited to the Sixth International Marine Debris Conference in San Diego, USA, on 12 – 16 March 2018.
