Holywood star Sigourney Weaver is the narrator of a new online series which investigates what the world might look like in 2050.
The future of food is examined in a couple of episodes of the Dream the Future documentary. With a growing global population estimated to hit 9.8 billion – up from 7.6 billion today – by the middle of the century – and 80% living in cities, innovative solutions are needed to feed a planet where 815 million people currently go hungry.
The show is on CuriosityStream’s streaming and on-demand platform, a product created by Discovery Channel Founder, John Hendricks.
“The first time I had the opportunity to work with John on a project, we were able to re-introduce hundreds of millions of viewers around the globe to the wonders of the natural world with Planet Earth. With Dream the Future, I hope we can introduce audiences to the promise and spectacular possibilities of tomorrow,” said Sigourney Weaver.

Innovators Magazine has seen an advanced screening of episodes focussed on food and cooking, which features experts asking ‘who will produce and where?’ – to feed the increasing population. Innovations like vertical farming and hydroponic crops – ideas that appear regularly on these pages – are explored in fascinating detail.
“Humankind’s insatiable curiosity about the future is an essential element of who we are. It is in our DNA to look beyond today and dream about the world of tomorrow. Dream the future represents the type of lean-forward programming that ignites imagination and illuminates our world,” added John Hendricks, founder of CuriosityStream
All 10 episodes will be available from 15 March.
