“As consciousness about caring for ourselves, each other and the planet, becomes more prevalent, there is an opportunity for humanity to drive change from the inside out,” said Tammy Michelle Scarlett the executive director of UNIFY, on Season 5 of Inside Ideas
This growing sense of togetherness, oneness, an amuse-bouche tasted by some of the social movements of the 1960s, is beginning to whet the appetites of our collective consciousness. Whether through popular initiatives like the Inner Development Goals (IDG), with its commitment to ‘fostering inner development towards more sustainable futures’, the rise of ethical consumerism, or the work of organisations like UNIFY, where Tammy is executive director, and which promotes world peace through global synchronised meditations and action campaigns focused on moving humanity forward, people are finding new meaning and purpose.
“There is something beneath the surface for humanity, that is also part of our shared experience of just being human at this time on the planet, that is calling for more, that’s hungry and thirsty for a little bit more,” Tammy told me. David Foster Wallace called it the ‘subsurface unity of all things’, humanity’s true default settings.
My conversation with Tammy explores these connection and looks at what they mean for both individuals and organisations. Tammy also speaks about impact portfolio, targeted investments designed to deliver social and environmental profits, and the myriad benefits of this. She also gives us a sneak preview of her book: BIRTHRIGHT, dropping in spring 2025.
