T-Mobile US has pledged to switch to 100% clean energy by 2021.
The telecoms giant has also signed up to the RE100 campaign, which is led by The Climate Group in collaboration with CDP. It is a growing group of corporates committed to moving entirely to renewable energy.
And to support its plans, T-Mobile has agreed a deal for 160 MWs of power from a wind energy project in Kansas, that will be online early next year. It’s the second wind power deal it has signed, the other is in Oklahoma. The two will supply 60% of the company’s energy needs in America.
“It’s great to see T-Mobile US shifting to renewables for its power consumption. As a large electricity consumer in the US, they can truly transform energy systems by bringing significant renewable capacity online – all of that while delivering real value to their customers. I congratulate them for a great commitment,” said Sam Kimmins, Head of RE100 at The Climate Group.
