Referred to as the Tesla of meat-free burgers and the darling of Silicon Valley, plant-based food company Beyond Meat is going global.
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the big name investors who has backed the America plant-based food producer; with the appetite for meat alternatives continuing to grow.
“The company has found extensive success in the U.S. market, doubling sales in 2017 and increasing distribution of its portfolio to more than 27,000 grocery stores and restaurants. Reflecting rapid demand growth in the United States and sustained interest from international markets, we’ve taken steps to significantly increase our production capacity,” said Beyond Meat Founder & CEO Ethan Brown in a company news statement. “These additions make it possible for us to support international launches, building upon the successful 2017 introduction of the Beyond Burger in Hong Kong.”
Beyond Meat will now take its products to six continents and over 50 countries this year.
Plant-based foods were predicted to be a big trend this year. And Bruce Friedrich, Executive Director, The Good Food Institute, wrote an article on the opportunities it offers to innovators, which was published in a biotech special edition we produced earlier this year.
