Amazon to buy Whole Foods Market

(USA)

Amazon has announced it is buying the international natural and organic food giant – Whole Foods Market – in a deal worth close to $14 billion.

Whole Foods Market, which is committed to supporting”sustainable agriculture”, will continue to trade under the same name.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, said: “Millions of people love Whole Foods Market because they offer the best natural and organic foods, and they make it fun to eat healthy. Whole Foods Market has been satisfying, delighting and nourishing customers for nearly four decades – they’re doing an amazing job and we want that to continue.”

This is just the latest move by Amazon into the food industry. It is a well established leader in food innovation and is harnessing the latest technology to transform the industry – like its queue ending Amazon Go platform.
