Winter Games prioritises environment

Next month’s PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea plans to continue its support for sustainability long after the competition is finished.

The inaugural PyeongChang Forum on the Earth and its Citizens will be held in Seoul – from 7 to 9 February. It will bring together global citizens to discuss and drive forward initiatives that can support efforts to combat climate change – it will then be held annually in PyeongChang from 2019.

“I fervently desire to open a place for discussion of pending environmental issues in the period leading up to the Games,” said Moon-soon Choi, Governor of Gangwon, where PyeongChang is located.

The Winter Olympics takes place from 9 to 25 February.
