New mega-city to run on renewables

(CHINA)

Plans are underway to build a new mega-city in China – powered by clean energy – that can ease the pressure on Beijing.

Called Xiongan New Area, it will be to the south of Beijing and is expected to attract 2.5 million people. The smart city project officially launched in April – as it begins the process of looking for international bids of interest from stakeholders who can help develop it.

And last week, Shu Yinbiao, Chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China, told delegates at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of New Champions that the city will run on green energy.
