New laws can lock in a better future

Dr Abir Haddad was one of the top podcasts of 2022. Dr Haddad is Director of the Institute for Legal Transformation, alumni of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, and teaches Modern Law of Arab States at the Institute for Private International Law at the University of Cologne, where she received her doctorate.

As director of the Institute for Legal Transformation, she is applying her ‘7 Steps to Legal Transformation’ methodology to look at ways of regulating exponential technologies and disruptive change, as she explores how the law of the future can be applied to promote living that is both sustainable and in balance with nature.

Her academic achievements and impact have been widely recognised, with Dr Haddad selected as one of only 20 scholars worldwide to be put on the Falling Walls Foundation’s Female Science Track 2022. She also won the wildcard for the Women in Leadership program and is a founding and faculty member of the European Club for Leaders and Sustainable Innovation program.

She says she “wants lawmakers and lawyers to question what law is” and to evolve it in ways that equips it to underpin societal justice and a sustainable planet.

Catch up now with my deep dive with Dr Haddad and discover what’s possible when we rethink the law from the hilltop of a transformed world.
