Let’s raise a glass to circularity

The drinks industry deserves credit for its efforts to embrace the circular economy.

We have toasted those efforts many times on these pages and want to say congrats to the 42BELOW® vodka brand. Last year we reported it was taking cocktail lemons and unwanted fruit from bars in New Zealand and Australia to make soap. And now it has been named the New Brand Innovation or Activity category winner in the fourth annual Bacardi Good Spirited awards. It is recognition for the brand’s work in upcycling ’empty bottles to make highball glasses and eco-friendly planters, saving 2,200 bottles from landfills’ and distributing 20,000 metal straws to bars and restaurants in support of the Bacardi No Straws campaign.

“Our Good Spirited environmental sustainability initiative is the backbone of our efforts to improve the environmental sustainability of the communities where we work and live. All of our initiatives demonstrate our commitment to a more sustainable environment as our colleagues lead the way to a cleaner and more collaborative future,” said Rick Wilson, senior vice president of Corporate Responsibility for Bacardi.
