How to be part of Europe’s innovation revolution

Europe is on the brink of an innovation revolution that could transform the continent into a sustainable powerhouse that future generations can thrive in.

The current landscape, characterised by disconnected innovation ecosystems and counterproductive bureaucratic restrictions, could soon be left far behind in the rear mirror, replaced by a European Innovation Area that its architects hope will kickstart a new era for the free movement of innovation and ideas.

“By taking a decentralised co-creation approach we can develop a European Innovation Area which offers equal access to funding and where startups in one country can easily bid for public contracts in another,” said European Commissioner, Mariya Gabriel.

And next week’s first ever European Innovation Area Summit (EIAS) will be a huge stepping stone towards realising these ambitions.

“I want us to achieve it,” Gabriel added. “And to nurture a networking culture fit for the 21st century, where all players are able to easily connect at a local and European level. And I also want to see the increased participation of women-led startups.”

The Summit in the European Parliament at the end of June – organised by Knowledge4Innovation (K4I) – will coincide with the launch of the European Commission’s new vision strategy for transforming innovation across the continent.

Taking place from 27-29 June in the European Parliament in Brussels – and online, it is an opportunity to help shape the future of innovation across the continent.
