GE Renewable Energy plans to invest $400 million in developing and deploying the world’s biggest offshore wind turbine technology.
The Haliade-X turbine will be five times taller than than Arc de Triomphe in Paris – 260 meters over the sea, and have blades longer than an average football pitch. A single turbine will provide enough energy to power 5,000 households annually.
John Flannery, Chairman and CEO of GE said: “We want to lead in the technologies that are driving the global energy transition. Offshore wind is one of those technologies and we will bring the full resources of GE to make the Haliade-X program successful for our customers.”
GE Renewable Energy is striving to have the units on the market by 2021.
