An online international challenge has been launched to develop ‘reusable and efficient face masks’ that offer workers greater protection against COVID-19.

The competition – led by Ennomotive – wants to support the creation of safer, more comfortable masks for use by people in ‘effort-intensive jobs’, which in turn reduce waste levels generated by disposable versions. This challenge is open to professionals, academics and students worldwide. Ennomotive is offering €16k to build the best prototypes, as well as a cash prize for the winner.

Innovations must comply with international specifications of the N95, FFP2, or FFP3 models. Where solutions are patentable, the winner receives 30% of the patent rights.

Solutions must be submitted by 9 June.
