The Pennsylvanian city of Reading has committed to powering itself with 100% renewable energy by 2050 – making it the 130th US city to do so.
Unanimously backed by the local council, the Sierra Club reports the resolution commits the city to transitioning: “municipal-owned facilities and equipment to clean, renewable electricity by 2030 and 100 percent clean, renewable energy for heat and transportation by 2040”
“This resolution is supported by science, will join Reading with leading cities across the nation and the globe, and will support a crucial piece of the transition towards a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable future. Let this action be a step towards the future our community deserves,” said Kevin Lugo, Sustainability Manager for the City of Reading.
