Your invite to the ‘make-or-break’ UN Food Systems Summit

To “come close to ending hunger by 2030” the science is clear that investment of “40 to 50 billion US dollars a year” is needed.

Joachim Von Braun, chair, UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) scientific group, said this at the inaugural UNFSS held in New York two years ago. At the same event countries brought forward actions plans to transform food systems responsible for 80% of biodiversity loss, and a third of global greenhouse gas emissions.

This month’s ‘Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment 2023’ event will look at the progress made post-New York and push for an acceleration in actions that prioritise making affordable and nutritious food available to all.

“An overall framing for the event lies around the narrative of Sustainable Food Systems for People, Planet and Prosperity: Diverse pathways in a shared journey,” the Food Systems Summit +2 website says. “Starting from this idea, the event serves as a make-or-break moment to maintain and generate further momentum on action for food systems transformation in support of SDGs acceleration.”

All ‘food systems actors worldwide’ are invited to register to join the virtual campus of the Rome summit, which runs from 24-26 July.
