World leaders arriving in Katowice next month for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP24) have a big challenge on their hands.
October’s special report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said there are just 12 years left to enact ‘far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society’ to limit global warming to 1.5°C – as per the 2015 Paris Agreement deal, and avert the droughts, floods and widespread destruction to the planet that comes with failing to meet the target. No pressure then.
Innovators Magazine’s coverage from Poland will be produced by our COP24 Editor, Marc Buckley, who will provide reliable, in-depth analysis on what impact the announcements made in Poland are likely to have. A member of the Expert Network for the World Economic Forum, Marc also works with the World Food Programme, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and is the Germany and Austria Country Coordinator for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. He also leads the award-winning Alohas Eco-Center project, which is inspiring a revolution in sustainable food production.
