Fruit and veg which is perfectly edible sometimes fails to make the cut because it isn’t very nice on the eye.
The Ugly Fruit and Veg initiative is one online campaign trying to tackle the issue by raising awareness about the amount of food being lost because it is deemed too horrifying for the public’s eye. It asks people to snap fruit and veg that may not have the looks but nevertheless would pass any taste test in a bid to reduce the 20-40% of produce wasted worldwide.
And supermarkets in the UK, including Morrisons and Asda, are selling ‘wonky veg’ boxes that are low-cost and offer families healthy options that are affordable.
