Scotland is attracting record tourist numbers and it’s not difficult to see why.

Home to the internationally renowned Edinburgh festival, numerous sporting events and music festivals, the country has been voted the most beautiful by readers of Rough Guides.

Recent figures revealed that with overseas and domestics visitors combined over 15.7 million tourists visited Scotland last year and spent over £4.9 billion, an increase of 10% from the previous 12 months.

Scotland’s tourism minister Fergus Ewing said: “The rise in both visitors and expenditure show that Scotland is a destination that offers quality experiences and visitors are prepared to spend their money in our hotels, tourism attractions and restaurants.”

This month Edinburgh becomes the cultural capital of the world as it welcomes visitors to its famous festivals and, of course, the legendary Royal military tattoo.
