Summer events in Finland were a clean air affair this year thanks to one of the country’s circular economy champions.
Neste supplied its Neste MY Renewable Diesel – produced from waste and residues – to provide power at Tall Ships Races – at a Weekend Festival in Helsinki and for vehicles at a rally sponsored by the company. The resulting reduction in greenhouse gas emissions was around 65 tons.
“It is great that more and more Finnish festivals and events want to be pioneers and pay more attention to the environment and climate. Neste MY Renewable Diesel helped summer events to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 90 percent compared with conventional fossil diesel. By using renewable diesel in electricity production, organizers can also offer more enjoyable events to their customers, as renewable diesel has much lower odor and particulate emissions than fossil diesel,” explained Kaisa Hietala, Executive Vice President, Renewable Products at Neste.
Finland is often cited as a champion of sustainability on these pages, and rightly so, we even labelled it the sweet spot of the circular economy. It was the first to have a roadmap for delivering a circular economy and companies like Neste are one of a number in the country promoting it in innovative and engaging ways.
