Stephen Hawking has passed away, his family confirmed Wednesday.
Speaking at the 2017 Web Summit in Lisbon, the internationally renowned scientist said artificial intelligence technology could ultimately ‘eradicate disease and poverty’ but cautioned it could also be weaponised and used to destroy the world. The ‘rise of powerful AI will be either the best or worst thing ever to happen to humanity,’ he said.
When a genius tells us the technology revolution can be the ‘biggest event in the history of our civilisation’ – and right the wrongs of the industrial age, it is incumbent on the rest of us to work together to realise that potential…
