Solar to power Hawaiian island 24/7

|10 March 2017|

Hawaii

An Hawaiian island will be able to access power around the clock from solar energy thanks to Tesla‘s innovative battery technology.

Tesla’s 52 MWh Powerpack and 13 MW solar farm combination will ensure Kauai can benefit from solar energy at night time as well as during the day. The Powerpack will store solar energy produced during the day and deliver it to the grid during the evening hours to reduce the amount of fossil fuels needed to meet energy demand. Tesla say this will save 1.6 million gallons of fossil fuel annually.

The system – which comprises 54,978 solar panels – will be turned on in phases.
