With more than 310 days of sunshine annually India is rather well placed to tap into the benefits of solar energy.
To encourage the nation to get behind it, Greenpeace India has been touring Delhi in a ‘solar house on wheels’. Basically a bus – running on CNG – with a solar roof providing energy to a variety of onboard appliances.
“Folks from different economic strata showed keen interest in going solar, and were ready to incur the cost of putting up solar panels on their rooftops,” wrote Mahima Chauhan in a Greenpeace India blog.
The Indian government is providing 30% subsidies on solar panels to accelerate adoption of the technology.
