Sculpture demands circular response

It is hoped a sculpture built in Helsinki this week from plastic waste can inspire a circular response. Created by schoolchildren, the unveiling coincided with Finland’s new presidency of the Council of the EU, which was inaugurated on 8 July.

The Plastic Mama ‘designed by the environmental artist Kaisa Salmi’ is 10 meters tall and is a stark visual reminder of the challenge Finland faces in tackling the climate crisis, the central theme of its presidency.
