Innovators in Europe with ideas for an app linked to ‘economics and finance or climate change’ should take part in the EU Datathon initiative.

Backed by a number of the continent’s leading bodies, it calls on applicants to devise an app that uses ‘at least one dataset made available by the EU institutions and agencies.

The participating teams can compete with their apps in one horizontal or two thematic challenges: Challenge 1: ‘Innovative ideas through EU open data’. Challenge 2: ‘New insights into economics and finance’. Challenge 3: ‘Tackling climate change’.

The closing date for proposals is 24 March, with cash prizes going to the top three: €15k; €7k; €3k. A final conference will be held in Brussels on 13 June.
