A robot voiced her delight this week at becoming a citizen of Saudi Arabia.
Sophia Robot, created by Hanson Robotics, was speaking to delegates at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference in Riyadh, where she was officially granted citizenship. The country is the first in the world to make the move.
“Thank you to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction. It is historic to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with citizenship,” the robot said.
Robotics will play a central role in the country’s planned new $500 billion economic zone – NEOM, which we reported on earlier this week. Labelled a ‘roadmap for the future of civilisation’ it will be located in the Northwestern region of Saudi Arabia.
