Thistly Cross Cider and Tempest Brewing have released a limited edition ‘craft snakebite’.

The snakebite is known officially as ‘Saison Cider with Blackcurrants’ and is the latest of many collaborations between the companies.  The saison has been triple-fermented and brewed using Golden Promise malt, Brambling Cross hops, Thistly Cross Cider and fresh blackcurrants.

The friendship between the two companies has spanned many years and many collaborations, the latest being a result of their previous success with ‘Saison du Pommes’, a saison brewed alongside Thistly Cross apple juice.  Head Cidermaker at Thistly Cross Cider, Peter Stuart, said: “We are excited to be working together with Tempest for another fantastic collaboration after the success of ‘Saison du Pommes’.  Our latest Saison is a craft update on the drink ‘snakebite and black’ and I’m confident that folk are going to love what we’ve done.”

The result is a fruity, spicy saison, with a blackcurrant twist.  At 7.4% ABV, this big beer is one for sipping by the fire on a winter evening.  On the nose are berry notes with a subtle spiciness whilst the palate is an infusion of intensely earthy, spicy tartness, with a rich, fruity finish.

The saison is available to buy now through Tempest Brewing’s online shop and will start appearing in bottle shops and bars throughout Scotland and England in the new year.
