Aberdeen based IMES Marine Safety Systems (IMES MSS) has opened a new workshop and warehousing facility at Montrose Port in a move that will further expand its customer support coverage.
IMES MSS, which provides offshore and marine clients with lifeboat and workboat inspection and repair and maintenance services, has invested around £250,000 in upgrading the 20,000 square foot quayside facility which it is leasing from Montrose Port Authority (MPA).
The new facility will enable IMES MSS to service its growing number of customers using Montrose by providing support for vessels for lifesaving equipment inspections combined with lifting inspection and testing, marine inspections, servicing and repair, wire rope management and winch spooling operations.
Rod Buchan, executive chairman of IMES, said: “We are delighted to be opening this new facility at Montrose, which further expands our extensive coverage at main UK ports so that we can support our marine customers wherever they berth.
“We have already opened discussions about working in collaboration with other local service providers, which will bring further benefits to port users at Montrose.”
IMES MSS is an approved service provider under the (IACS) International Association of Classification Societies regulations and holds accreditations with Lloyds and DNV GL which ensures the company can support any type of vessel which berths at the port.
Nik Scott-Gray, chief executive of MPA, said: “We are delighted to welcome IMES to the port as its marine safety services combined with its lifting inspection capability and wire rope management further enhances the local services available to visiting vessels.
“Montrose Port is continuing to expand as an important North Sea shipping and logistics hub through a continuous investment programme in infrastructure and facilities.”
MPA has invested around £15m in the port since 2012, including major upgrades to quays on both the north and south sides of the harbour.
IMES, which employs around 70 people, also has operations in Aberdeen, Bristol, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Rosyth and Sheffield as well as an office in the United States. In addition, it has agents in Singapore, Egypt and Holland and Norway.
