Meat-free burgers grow in popularity

(CALIFORNIA)

An American producer of burgers made from plant proteins is now selling its meat-free alternative in hundreds of Safeway stores across California.

Beyond Meat says it is committed to “conserving natural resources and respecting animal welfare” as it strives to make a “positive impact on climate change”. The company’s vision has attracted influential investors, including Bill Gates.

Earlier this year it was announced the burgers would be sold in Hong Kong – a city which eats more meat per head than any other – as well as to students at an ivy league university.
