Kenya has ‘scored another first in Africa’, President Uhuru Kenyatta said, at the official opening of the continent’s largest wind farm project this month.
The Lake Turkana Wind Power farm, located around 600km from Nairobi, has 310 megawatts of installed capacity, enough to power over 300K homes, or 15% of the country’s electricity needs; and will be a major contributor to the country’s ambitious goal of shifting to 100% renewable energy target by 2020.
“With this monumental feat, as Kenya scores another first in Africa, I challenge all Kenyans to remain resilient builders who build best when called upon to build greatly,” said President Kenyatta.
