Innovation crucial in tackling food security issues

|15 June 2016|

China

Science and technology innovation is key to tackling the global challenges created around the issue of food security, according to agricultural ministers.

A meeting of G20 Agriculture Ministers held in China earlier this month, under the theme: Agricultural Innovation and Sustainable Development focussed on issues including sustainable agricultural development and institutional, science and technology innovation.

To this end leaders agreed to advance knowledge sharing and technology applications among the international community on sustainable agricultural development, and to progress the establishment of the agricultural science and technology cooperation sharing platform.

And recognising the vital role collaboration plays in advancing a culture of innovation, The G20 meeting brought together agricultural entrepreneurs, scientists and ministers for the first time, in a series of meetings to champion a new strategy of cooperation aimed at tackling global agriculture and food security issues.
