Serge de Gheldere is my guest today on this special Hogmanay edition of Inside Ideas. Serge is the CEO and co-founder of Futureproofed, a company driven by the belief that a sustainable, fossil-free future is a better, more attractive future. It provides cities and businesses with the digital tools they need to collaborate, develop, monitor, and implement their climate plans; and is currently trusted and used by 140 European municipalities.
A trained engineer, Serge vehemently believes that it’s within our power to reverse the climate crisis and build a fossil-free, circular economy. He has inspired audiences at global events, including the TEDxFlanders and Innovation Summit, and given hundreds of lectures in cities all over the world including – Stanford, Yale, Tsinghua Beijing, India, Dubai, Togo, Budapest – where he has shared his expert insight on the choices we face regarding climate change and the opportunities that are available from transitioning to a sustainable economy.
And Serge believes all of us have it in our power to help accelerate the transition. He tells me on the show that we have to put on the glasses of opportunity and see what our choices bring us: how they can enrich our life – say by opting for a bike over a car, or by eating planet-based foods, and that we can apply this thinking on all levels.
