COP28

Here’s why COP28 in Dubai offers new hope

Are global climate conferences just an excuse for wealthy bureaucrats to get together and enjoy a few daiquiris? A lot of people probably think so but with COP28 getting underway in Dubai this week, is public scepticism about climate events justified?

There is one book that says it’s not: Heroes of Environmental Diplomacy: Profiles in Courage, a book filled with stories about some of the amazing work done by scientists, politicians, diplomats, activists and businesspeople – who passed on the daiquiris – to focus on bringing about real and transformative change. The heroes in the book are an antidote to the idea that climate events are a waste of time; and with COP28 on the horizon, it is a book that will help reignite your hope that Dubai could still be a major turning point for people and planet.

Catch up with the podcast where I speak with the editors of the book, Felix Dodds and Chris Spence, for more from the pages of Heroes of Environmental Diplomacy.

Innovators Magazine has covered every COP since 2017 and will have a team in Dubai covering this year’s event, taking place from 30 Nov-12 Dec. We are also official media partners of the World Climate Summit’s Investment COP in Dubai, on from 7-8 December.
