Former American Vice President Al Gore helped launch a major package of renewable energy investments in the Australian state of Victoria this week.
He joined Victoria Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio, to announce $146 million of funding – part of Renewable Energy Action Plan. Gore first took a ride on one of Melbourne’s iconic trams, which are on track to be powered by solar energy in the near future.
“This funding represents the most significant government investment in renewable energy in Victoria’s history,” said Lily D’Ambrosio. “We need to ensure that the new energy technology sector is equipped to create jobs, attract investment and grow the economy for the benefit of all Victorians – and we’re doing just that.”
She added: “The Renewable Energy Action Plan will help us deliver affordable, sustainable and reliable energy for Victoria.”
