GMO takes big screen test

(USA)

A new movie is set to make a big contribution to the ongoing debate around the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food and agriculture.

The Food Evolution film – by Academy Award®-nominated director Scott Hamilton Kennedy – will look at the science and broadcast some of the emotional opinions people have on genetically engineered (GE) foods. It will be released in America later this month and have selected showings worldwide.

A report published last year by America’s National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine “found no substantiated evidence that foods from GE crops were less safe than foods from non-GE crops.” The public is sceptical, though. A US poll in 2015 revealed around a third of the public felt they were safe, that rose to 88% among scientists.

Here’s the trailer.
