The National Geographic Traveler  has named Glasgow as one of its 20 ‘Best of the World’ destinations for 2016, which will come as no surprise to anyone who has visited the city.

Home to world-class festivals, gigs, theatre, museums, art exhibitions and sporting events, Glasgow is one of the coolest cities on earth, inhabited by the warmest and friendliest people on it.

The fabulous annual Celtic Connections winter music festival kicks things off in January, the start of Scotland’s  Year of Innovation, Architecture, and Design. The perfect time then for it to be hosting the Turner Prize, one of the most renowned contemporary art exhibitions and awards, which will conclude on January 17.

Amy Alipio, features editor, National Geographic Traveler, said: “Glasgow landed on our list for 2016 because it’s one of the most exciting cities in the world right now. Its art scene is just too hot to ignore. Case in point: the Turner Prize is in Scotland for the first time, and the exhibit culminates at Glasgow’s Tramway gallery in January. But fans the world over know that it’s the city’s unrivaled music scene that really embodies Glasgow’s energy and swagger.”

So what are you waiting for?
