In 2017 Innovators Magazine and Newsquest International joined forces to launch the Global Game Changers awards, one of the world’s first cross-sectoral award platforms recognising innovations, practices and initiatives advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The inaugural awards were held in Glasgow, one of Europe’s top innovation hotspots. The evening at the Glasgow Science centre recognised the innovation economy’s importance in delivering a sustainable future for all. Entrants were judged on their success to date in making – or having the potential to make – a global impact within the context of the SDGs.

Our partners at Knowledge4Innovation, who run the annual European Innovation Summit in Brussels, welcomed the new awards platform.

Roland Strauss, Managing Director at Knowledge4Innovation, said: “This is an exciting addition to the innovation economy. It’s great to see our partners at Innovators Magazine collaborating with Newsquest International to host the first ‘Global Game Changers’ awards in Scotland. Collaboration is a vital element of the innovation process. The awards recognise those pioneering companies and individuals that are working to build a sustainable future by contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. And with it being the 10th anniversary of the European Innovation Summit here in Brussels in 2018, who knows, we may well be welcoming the ‘Global Game Changers’ awards to the Belgian capital in 2018.”

Now the 2018 Global Game Changers (GGC) awards has officially launched.

We are delighted to partner with Newsquest International again this year for the September awards in Glasgow. The cross-sector event has 10 categories, with each looking for innovation that contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The keynote speaker is UN SDG advocate, Marc Buckley. A member of the Expert Network for the World Economic Forum, Marc also works with the World Food Programme, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and is the Germany and Austria Country Coordinator for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project.

“Businesses that want to be around in the future need to make sure they have dynamic systems-based business models, and include the SDGs as the foundation that provides the resilience to hold their business together well beyond 2030,” Marc said.

New for 2018, Sustainability Street will showcase some of the products transforming how we live and work.

Global Game Changers 2018 – supported by the Bayer Cares Foundation, the Centre for Work-based Learning, Circular Glasgow, City of Glasgow College, BAE Systems and ScottishPower – will be held in Glasgow’s iconic Grand Central Hotel on 12 September – with London the next stop for GGC in 2019.

The awards return to Glasgow in 2018 – before being held in London in 2019 (doubtless with a stop in Brussels at some point).
