Amsterdam is establishing itself as the global capital of the burgeoning sustainable fashion industry. I’ll be checking out how the city is inspiring this welcome trend over the next couple of days, as I meet the innovators changing an industry that is one of the worst polluters. This is thanks to a media tour being led by Fashion for Good, amsterdam&partners – a not-for-profit organization in the public-private sector, dedicated to making Amsterdam an even better place to live, work and visit, and the City of Amsterdam.
“In Amsterdam, established labels, luxury designers and ambitious startups alike are collaborating on innovative sustainable materials and disrupting the status quo of ‘take-make-waste’. Fashion for Good, a global initiative with a hub in Amsterdam, believes that ‘Good Fashion’ is not only possible, it is within reach — what the industry lacks are the resources, tools and incentives to put it into relentless practice. Their mission is to bring together the entire fashion ecosystem through their Innovation Platform and as a convenor for change,” the programme guide states.
