America is investing in advanced biofuel technologies in a bid to accelerate the switch to affordable fossil-fuel replacements.
The country’s Energy Department is backing three pioneering projects that are designed to slash the costs of algae-based biofuels and bioproducts. This funding will boost the research and the pace of commercialisation of renewable, domestically produced biofuels.
One of the projects, led by San Diego’s Global Algae Innovations aims to ‘accelerate the commercialisation of algal biofuels’.
The company’s website staes: “Our innovations significantly lower energy consumption, increase production efficiency, and are a fraction of the cost of conventional algae production technologies.”
