Europe charges up EV revolution

The who’s who of the car world are launching a pan-European charging network for electric vehicles (EV).

Called IONITY, it is being led by the biggest names in the industry: Porsche, BMW Group, Ford Motor Company, Daimler AG, and the Volkswagen Group with Audi.

“The first pan-European HPC network plays an essential role in establishing a market for electric vehicles. IONITY will deliver our common goal of providing customers with fast charging and digital payment capability, to facilitate long-distance travel,” said Michael Hajesch, IONITY Chief Executive Officer.

There will be 20 up and running this year – placed at 120km intervals, in Austria, Norway and Germany, with that number increasing to more than 100 in 2018. They are being supported and facilitated by Tank & Rast, Circle K and OMV.
